The overall goal of the research is to make it clear that preparedness is the key to lessen the impact of disaster. A disaster is the effect of an occurrence that has caused tremendous damage to people and community. The aim of this paper is to show what disaster is and its effect on people and community, and to be able to combat the devastating outcome it may bring by truly understanding it, and by applying significant safety measures whenever applicable. The nature of disasters varies in forms and attacks, and generally unpredictable. It may be a result of natural phenomenon like typhoon, tornado, or earthquake but sometimes it is due to human error or irresponsibility. However, there are times when a disaster is a result of both. Its frequency can differ; it can occur more often and therefore can post a greater risk. The result of its impact differs; for example a tornado may last only fifteen minutes while a drought may stretch for years. It can come without warning, but sometimes its onset is slow, allowing longer warning time. It can invade a small area sometimes, but there are times when th e encroachment it makes is so devastatingly wide, like the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines. It also has different potential levels of destruction, while a cyclone may devastate an entire city, a bridge that collapsed may only affect a small area. Its relation to human vulnerability and control may also vary.Ã

Final exam - Essay Example These Asian economies enjoy a number of natural and artificial factors. These factors have positioned both China and India at a far much better place to benefit from the idea of globalization. The goodwill portrayed by the political leadership has threefold accentuated the embrace and utilization of globalization to its best. Cummings Inc, being company based in Columbus and majoring in production of world class engines that enable power and run world economies, stand a chance to feel, in full force, the impact of Indian and Chinese presence in the American Market. Cummings Inc is global and this directly translates that it is competing for the same resources and same market which India and china are trying to venture in. It is noted with a lot of concern that China and India have penetrated nearly in all parts which were predominantly American markets and hence companies in America, including Cummings Inc has to review its strategies for it to compete effectively in the 21st century market. Opportunities presented by Influx of Indian and Chinese Activities to Cummings Inc Outsourcing China and India account for approximated two billion of the worldââ¬â¢s population. Outsourcing has been very common of late. Many USA companies are finding it far much cheaper to get work done in India and china than in USA. This is business and Cummings Inc has to adapt to these radical changes. ... These governments are doing anything possible to see increase of job opportunities. As mentioned in the earlier, they hold a large population and this population need food, shelter and clothing. Life standards need not only to be achieved but also guaranteed and of quality. The political leadership in these two countries knows that itââ¬â¢s only through a better life that stability can be maintained. For this reason, they endeavor to welcome any investor to invest in their labor affordable market. Cummings hence has an opportunity to save a lot if at all it opts to shift some of its operations in China or India. In fact, it is very viable. These countries are considerably technologically sound and as one of the business activities of Cummings Inc is to design, then the designs can be taken to china or India for production. Market Cummings makes products which drive economies. China and India presents the largest market for any product. They are growing economies and definitely nee d these products from Cummings. The international agreements signed for doing business will enable Cummings to export its products with a lot of ease to China and India. It presents a rare opportunity for exponential kid of growth. Recommendations to the Company Firstly, I recommend that Cummings Inc to outsource in India or China. The standard of living in these countries is relatively low and hence Cummings will benefit from a reduced cost of production. A low cost of production directly translates to a stiff competition of the Cummingsââ¬â¢ products in the global market. Cummings Inc ought to open up more dealer outlets of its products in China and India. This is beneficial in a way that the large population provides a ready market. America's Richest Men and Their Impact in the Country Research Paper
America's Richest Men and Their Impact in the Country - Research Paper Example Rockefeller soared to be the richest man in U.S due to the growing importance of kerosene and gasoline (Chernow, 1998, pp. 10) In 1853, his relatives shifted to Strongsville where he took a ten week course on book keeping and in 1856, he got his initial job as an assistant bookkeeper at the Hewitt & Tuttle firm. He worked long hours in that firm as he was delighted and was skillful in accounting and calculating the transport costs which later helped him in his career (Chernow, 1998, pp. 46-47). He earned $50 at the end of the month and donated 6% of these proceeds to charity. This donation later rose to 10% when he joined the Baptist church (Chernow, 1998, pp. 50) With his partner, Maurice B. Clark, in 1859, Rockefeller went into manufacturing commission trade where they raised a capital of $4000. From this, Rockefeller went into business gradually where he made money with each year (Segal, 2001, pp. 25). Together with his partner, they ventured into oil business where they first bui lt their company first in 1863 in ââ¬Å"The flatsâ⬠then moved it to the Clevelandââ¬â¢s growing Industrial area. The commercial oil trade by this time was in its young growing stage. Whale Oil was the only oil that was available and was very expensive and an alternative needed to be sought, a cheaper and all- purpose lighting fuel was needed (Chernow, 1998, pp. 73-74) Rockefeller later bought the Oil Company, which had started out as a partnership, in an auction. The company had started out as a partnership between him and the Clark brothers. He positioned his business and himself well to take advantage of the post ââ¬âcivil war successfulness and the large expansion of the territory westward which was nurtured by the constructions of the railway lines and a oil-fueled economy. He then sought for financing and reinvested the profits he gained and adjusted quickly to the changing markets (Segall, 2001, pp. 32, 35) In the 1890ââ¬â¢s he flourished into iron ore and ore transportation. This then forced a conflict between him and his competitor steel magnate Andrew Carnegie. Then he later went on a huge buying fling where he acquired leases for crude oil production in Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia (Segall, 2001, pp. 84) From his first salary, Rockefeller tithed 10%of his proceeds to the church and he increased his giving with increase in wealth. He gave to the benefit of learning and communal health causes, fundamental science and the arts too (Ordway, 2009, p 107). Together with his consultants he discovered the conditional funding, which necessitated the beneficiaries to establish the organization in the interest of many people and that thereafter the recipient may be relied on to achieve the peopleââ¬â¢s interests and their cooperation (Fosdick, 1989, pp. 88). He funded heavily a College in Atlanta for African-American women and also gave appreciable contributions to Denison University and other Baptist Colleges. This then shows that Rockef eller supported education in US. He even founded a General Education Board in 1903 to endorse learning in the country. This played an important role in improving the living conditions of society around him (Jones-Wilson, 1996, pp.184) Rockefeller then established the Rockefeller institute for Medical Research in New York City which would still make him one of the immense beneficiaries of

Economics (twin deficit) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Economics (twin deficit) - Essay Example The deficit has been covered through the borrowing from various agencies both foreign and domestic. The persistent current account deficit for last 20 years has given unprecedented amount of claims to foreign investors. It is always possible that at some time in future and specially if no corrective measures are urgently taken up, the situation may very well become challenging. The foreign claims are generally in the form of stock bonds, treasury issues, bank accounts and other types of financial securities. Foreign governments, their central banks and international agencies possess a sizable share of the claim. One way of looking at the present scenario is that America is becoming increasingly dependent on the imports while its export market is not showing substantial growth. Steady depreciation of the dollar in the international market is the indicator that decides the inflow of foreign investment in the country. When the dollar depreciates, there is more inflow of foreign goods and services. IMF in recent time has also cautioned US to take appropriate steps to curb its rising current account deficit. The report says that ââ¬Ëthe concern remains that at some time more adjustment will be needed to ensure that the global pattern of current account position remains consistent with the willingness of the international wealth holders to build up net claims on the United Statesââ¬â¢. The global economy has been advancing at a very fast rate and in the present circumstances when the global inter-dependence has become a norm, United States needs to moderate its consumption and spending and focus on issues that would help restrain the increasing growth of current account deficit. One must conclude that today statistics show that US needs to import $1 trillion of foreign capital every year. In the long run, it is highly unsustainable situation both in terms of

Methods of tempering by water - Coursework Example The revenue from the exports is then reinvested towards purchasing food stuff and machinery in order to sustain the rapidly growing economy of Qatar (Mclachlan, 2010). The current high oil prices are responsible for making sure that Qatar has a favorable balance of payment. It should however be noted that, the countryââ¬â¢s dependence is not sustainable and its oil reserves are expected to be completely used up by the year 2023. This has led to the government of Qatar shifting its focus towards the development of the natural gas industry. The government has embarked on a plan to increase its production of liquid natural gas that has been attributed as being the major driving force in Qatarââ¬â¢s rapid growth levels in recent years. There are ongoing plans to expand the production of (LNG) exponentially, which according to estimates, will make the country the biggest exporter of LNG in the world. In 2010, Qatarââ¬â¢s major partner in import trade was the US and it accounted for 11.8% of all imports of Qatar marking a shift from Japan, which had been the main trade partner in exports and imports with Qatar. The countryââ¬â¢s foreign trade has grown rapidly in recent years because of developments in the oil, gas industries and related infrastructure undertakings. In 2009 for example, the rate balance for goods rose from $ 25,555million in 2009 to $ 53,863million in 2010 which was an increase of 110.8%.I n 2010, the exports of goods including ere exports was estimated to be $95,736 million which was 75% of the overall nominal GDP. Analyze the Marketing Mix of Toyota Corporation Essay
Analyze the Marketing Mix of Toyota Corporation - Essay Example In terms of product, Toyota understands what drives the consumer to buy today. The company remains focused around the ecologically-friendly aspects of auto design as a means to make their product stand out against all other competition in Toyotaââ¬â¢s various car markets. In 1997, Toyota created the first widely-manufactured hybrid car, the Toyota Prius, which was a revolution in auto design for consumers who wish to buy green (Potterf, 2006). Using a variety of public relations strategies and other promotional materials (such as print and on-air), Toyota capitalized on their strategic advantage by developing the hybrid model when companies such as General Motors and Ford only had these cars on their design drawing boards. In terms of product focus, Toyota appears to have always been a leader in catering to the eco-friendly buyer. Positioning the entire company as an eco-friendly business is designed to appeal to the buyer who is concerned about environmental impact and desires a quality hybrid car model. In terms of price, Toyota appears to be highly competitive, keeping car prices lower than what would be found domestically in the United States. Any business of this variety must consider their pricing models based on the cost of goods sold (supply chain costs generally) and what customers will actually be willing to pay based on perceived quality. Toyotaââ¬â¢s sales volumes have continued to increase year-by-year until the recent global economic crisis, which points toward a pricing model that is acceptable by consumer standards and expectations. Since Toyota and other companies create multiple, international models of cars, there is no distinct pricing model available through research which indicates specific, targeted pricing guidelines as a part of Toyotaââ¬â¢s marketing. In this sense, the sales volumes tend to speak for themselves. In terms of place, Toyota has developed a very distinct distribution system by which cars are delivered to various national

The there is the low membership recruitment. The other problem was the resistance by some council who were opposed to centralized control and finally by people joining and leaving the organization so that there is no continuity.
